Sitting in one of his Queen Anne chairs by the window, the curtains stirring in the gentle breeze coming in, Fledge, as Shadow called him, was idly playing with his silver flask. The albatross on the stoper seemed to stand out a bit more under his roaming fingers. Curious he thought. Undoing the stopper, he took a pull of his blood wine, thinking again how comfortable he felt in this house Ada had invited him to. Intriguing Woman, hidden depths there, he thought, and amiled whistfully.
Looking over at the oil painting on the wall, deathfledge noticed that the Man'o'War had turned into the fog, the lights from the masters Quarters high in the stern giving off a yellow sheen to the rolling fog that now almost obscured the vessel. a very faint bell rang out twice,a warning to other traffic that the ship was nearby. The painting and the albatross signalled a warning to Fledge. The fact that the painting seemed alive already, almost a window, was concern enough. He wasn't ready! The albatross relief just confirmed his fears so, going to his trunk, he used the stopper of his flask, touching it to the lock.
with an audible click, the lock sprung open. Taking his cutlass off the lid of the trunk, he opened it and placed his flask inside, Laying it carefullynext to his weather beaten storm cloak. just to the left of the clak was his fresh bed linen, and, reaching under the folded satin and silk sheets pillow cases an covers, he withdrew a warn brown leather pouch. straightening up and tapping the pouch in his hand, he crossed to the tall boy.
His mother of pearl vanity case was sitting in the centre andopening it, he took out some plasin cufflinks with no distinguishing marks, swapping them for his embossed ones, the albatross on which stood out in the same way as the one on the flask stopper. The cufflinks swapped out, Fledge then returned to the trunk and closed it. the lock snapping shut on its own. Returning to his seat at the window, placing the pouch on the sill and looking sadly at it,deathfledge waited for the inevitable
The faint cry of a lone seabird could be heard from the direction of the painting, and looking uo, deathfledpe saw that the ship had now vanished into the night. Again came the cry, this time there was a hint of urgency from it. Taking up the pouch, deathfledge stood up and retrieved his cutss. He had a feeling it would be needed this time and belted it to his waist. Looking into the pouch, he emptied the contents into his palm. It seemed to be dust, but as he gently blew on it a thick fog rose from his palm. Enveloping him, a soft sibilant voice could just be heard. it is time dear one. You are needed I am coming mistress
deathfledge looked about thee room and sighed. He would return soon, he knew, but it still hurt to leave when he'd just met some interesting people. He stepped into the swirling mist and the scent of fresh sea air was borne on a breeze that stirred and dissipated the fog. When it was clear, deathfledge was gone.
